[Video Post 1] It would be so nice if something made sense for a change

[Despite the Head Librarian's warnings, Steve had been exploring alone. Not the wisest decision but he didn't want anyone to get hurt while he was trying to get a general idea of the layout of the Library. As he moves deeper into the Fiction area, he notices something that seems a little strange. Telling himself that it's just trick of the light, he continues to move deeper into the stacks. Then the strange motion resolved itself into... Okay, that was weird even by 'aliens' and 'killer robot' standards.

Sliding his bookmark out of his pocket, he sets it to broadcast.]

Does anyone know if there's any wildlife that's native to the Library? I keep seeing weird insects.

[Something strange swoops by and Steve blinks in surprise.]

Or birds? It looked like a bird.

[Kind of.]

And there's a garden somewhere in the stacks.

[Religion is something that Steve has years of experience with. He went to church on Sundays and had lived with very devout neighbors but no one talked about the afterlife in such common terms.]

I'm glad you have people here from your universe. It's hard to get used to something like this without having your friends around.

[Pausing, he considers what they might need. Not for himself but for any emergencies that might happen.]

If you can find anything that would be useful if someone gets hurt, I'd appreciate it. It'd be good to have supplies ready in case there's an emergency.

Actually, that's not weird. A friend of mine builds robots. I don't think he's built one that looks like a bird but he probably could if he was back home.

[Steve had hoped to avoid talking to Tony until after he'd gotten back but the things he'd seen were too unnerving for him to contact the other patrons. He expects his friend to throw accusations at him, not say that.]

What? I don't know. Tony, why did you ask that?

[Looking slightly guilty at the other question, he hesitates a few seconds before answering.]

Somewhere outside the area the Librarians said was safe. I didn't think I'd gone out that far. My - uh - I think my sense of direction and distance is messed up.

The real question is... why do we ask any question?

[When Tony opened his mouth, he didn't expect that to come out. What was going on? This place seems to be messing with his head and he doesn't like it at all.]

Outside... Stop playing with danger and courting the darkness and ask for help where help is offered.

[His voice trailed off and he rubs at his face. What is wrong with him? Seriously.]

I'm coming to find you.

[What? Okay... yelling Steve expected, not this odd double talk from his friend. When Tony was angry with him, he didn't try to cover it with word games. This is odd.]

Because we want answers?

[It shouldn't have come out as a question but considering how strange all of this is, he couldn't keep it from sounding that way. The comment about darkness and asking for help hits a little too close to home. Steve almost says something he'll regret and pushes aside that thought.]

Wait, Tony. You can't come out here. There's some kind of strange bird flying around. I don't know what it is.

Well met, Steve Rogers.

And I would be honored to help with that. I was the Captain of the Guard where I cam from [destroyer of evil fire demons and victorious against undead wraiths but that would just be bragging.] so I have experience in that.

[His own service record is a little complicated to explain since there were times when even he hadn't been sure of his official status.]

I was a captain in my country's army before I became part of a group that protects our world. If you have any advice on how to deal with things like fire breathing birds - [Steve idly wonders about his life since that doesn't sound as weird as it should.] - or anything else like that, I'd like to hear it. Things like that aren't common where I'm from.

[He's never had reason not to believe the Lore of his people, nor to disbelieve the Valar or Maiar, for all their power and what he recalled seeing as a child. The Halls are just...special.]

Yes, I am grateful to have one dear to me here. I hope the adjustment for you will grow easier, if you do not have such a companion from your universe.

[He listens to what is requested, then tips his head a little.] I will keep a sharp eye out.

Really? That sounds like something from a movie!

[ooc: Sorry for how late this is! These past few days have been busy.]

The uniformed must improve their deficit, but curiosity kills the cat.

[Tony scrunched his nose, the expression lasting a bare second before he grinned.]

Really, Steve... birds do tend to fly and strange is simply a relative term. Use the sources available to you.

[Pausing, he rubs his face as though he's trying to wipe the weird grin away and focus better. Finally he gives Steve a helpless look then waves in indicating fashion at the screen. He spoke slowly, making sure he said something normal this time.]

I will track you if necessary. [But his words kept going.] Or wander about until my feet take me somewhere I need to go.

Kill them or find me. Do not trust such creatures. [Glorfindel is firm on that.]

If you see anything like orcs or trolls, do not attempt to reason with such beings. They are mindless and seek only to destroy.

I have a friend that arrived with me. [Which might not be the help Steve wishes it to be considering how Tony had wanted a normal life.] It'll help that he's here. Last time I went through something like this, almost no one I knew was alive.

[Steve can't help wondering if it's just as much a shock for Ecthelion to be here as it'd been for Steve waking up from the ice.] Has it been difficult for you to get used to being here?

Thank you. If you see anything else that would be helpful it might be a good idea to pick it up while we have access to the market. I think each of us will be planning for different kinds of trouble.

[Which could be an advantage considering the Librarians had been vague about what could happen here.]

Yeah. He has these robots that help him work. [Help is relative when dealing with DUM-E but the 'bot tries.] Tony makes things that look like they should be in the movies.

((ooc: Don't worry about it. I've been slow this week too. :) ))

Trust them? Do they talk too? [Talking, fire breathing birds? That may top the aliens on the weirdness scale.] I promise I'll call for reinforcements if something tries to make me its dinner.

[All of this sounds like it should be in a fantasy novel. Belatedly, Steve realizes that now he could easily be living in one.]

I've read about those things but they're stories where I'm from. Is there certain ways to kill them if that becomes necessary?

Curiosity killed the cat but satisfaction brought it back.

[Maybe Steve really is going crazy because Tony is not making sense at all. But if he was crazy wouldn't the others he's spoken to be talking in weird riddles too? All of them had sounded normal so was it just effecting Tony? Another reason the genius shouldn't leave the 'safe' area. It might get worse out in the garden.]

I don't think opening the books to look up what species it was is a good idea. Tony... [He hesitates, not wanting to admit that he might really be slipping mentally, especially when there’s obviously something wrong with Tony.] It looked like... like it was made of spare parts.

[His worries for his sanity fade as he watches Tony. The grin is almost unnerving, unlike the smiles he gives to charm the press or his teammates when they're joking around.]

Tony, stay there. I'll head back. I don't want whatever's out here effecting you.

Not that I know but I only wish that no one underestimates them.

The best way is beheading them but they will die in the same manner Men do. They are not difficult creatures to kill but they come in great numbers with only a single purpose.

[Tony stopped at that, his eyes almost glinting with a feline-ish amusement.]

And if one were to satisfy the cat, what would you do?

[Part of him snapped at him for talking so freely and he bit his lower lip and shook his head. Really... something was going on and he didn't really understand what it was. He really honestly might have gotten on the right track if Steve hadn't made the comment about the little birds made out of flying parts. Blinking in surprise, he looked up and grinned all the more.] Spare parts, you say? Where might those be? I would love to see them.

[Running his hand through his hair, he hummed a sound that almost seemed like a purr.] I doubt wherever we go that we can ever truly escape what is here... we are here, after all.

But I would never protest to you coming to me.

I was hoping that they couldn't actually talk but it sounds possible in a place like this.

[Pausing, Steve gives Glorfindel a wry smile.]

Having things trying to kill me is something I'm used to. I never was able to run away when people thought I should. From the sounds of it, I'm going to need more than just my shield to deal with the things from your reality.

[Is Tony flirting with him? It wouldn't really surprise him if he was but combined with the strange double talk, Steve isn't sure if his friend is flirting or asking if he'd be jealous if someone 'satisfied' him.]

I guess that'd depend on what the cat wanted.

Tony, I think they're live birds. You can't tear them apart for spare parts! And the Librarians said not to damage things from the books.

[At least Steve assumed that they were from a book. No one had mentioned any strange wildlife in the Library. Blinking at the next - riddle? Was Tony telling riddles? - strange comment, trying to make sense of it.]

We can't escape it completely but some areas have to be safer than others.

Oh? [Tony perked up at that answer, his eyes lighting up only to dim again, he looked off to the side.]

Sometimes the cat doesn't deserve to ever get what it wants.

[His voice was quieter, not so much a riddle as a note of sadness.]

Are they living? Can parts live? Curious. I would like to see them either way. [After all, Tony could totally see that as a pet instead of the conventional dog or cat. It made sense... As long as they didn't tear things up of course.]

So... coming to protect me?

[He still isn't certain if Tony really had been flirting but Steve knows that look after spending so much time with his friend. Despite all the good Tony has done, he still seems to think that he still has to pay for the mistakes he's made. His voice holds none of the anger that he'd felt while they'd been fighting Ultron. He sounds more like he had when they had been fighting side by side, cracking jokes and being friends more than teammates]

But not all the time. Sometimes it should get what it wants.

I don't know if the parts live but the rest of them had feathers and they moved around and acted like they were alive.

[He knows that he should tell Tony what he saw. It wouldn't be a show of weakness that he wouldn't allow himself in front of strangers.]

One of them looked like it was made out of a bird cage and it had a bird inside it.

[Which when he puts it into words, sounds creepier than it had really looked.

Shaking his head, he pushes aside the thought along with the questions about his sanity. Checking his surroundings, he starts heading back 'home'.]

We both know you can protect yourself, but I will if you want me to.

He must be amazing...

It would be nice if we had stuff like that to help us here. N-not that I don't like working or anything!

[ooc: Thank you!]

[It takes him a moment, a moment to really think about that before dark eyes finally return to Steve's on the screen. A slight furrow in his brow gives away the battle of acceptance versus refusing to believe that as true.]

It all depends on what the cat has done and if forgiveness is real.

[He moves on just as fast not wanting to linger on that thought.] I have to admit, these sounds strange indeed...

[Grinning a little he added.] Quite the conundrum, a bird within the bird, which is really alive and which came first?

Hm... Are you just trying to flatter me after our little rainy day fun?

He is. He was brought here with me. His name's Tony Stark. If you ask about his robots, he'll probably tell you everything about them.

[It would probably be literally everything but it might be good for Tony to talk about DUM-E and the others.]

There's nothing wrong with having help with the work. If we can find Tony the stuff to work with, he probably could build a robot here.

[Ultron was still a difficult subject but after Steve had had time to think instead of react, he realized that there was more to what happened than what he'd assumed. Tony had created something dangerous but he'd also created someone worthy of Mjölnir.]

Forgiveness is real and what that cat did has been forgiven.

[At least some of it had. Steve was still pushing aside some of it, things he doesn't want to admit to himself or Tony because it would hurt their friendship.]

I was trying to figure out if the cage bird ate the other bird or if they were part of each other.

[Which is weird and creepy. The thought has Steve moving quicker as he heads out of the garden.]

You know I'm terrible at flattery.

[The tablet shows the ground for a few seconds when Steve pauses, looking up at the huge mushroom that he didn't remember seeing when he'd first entered the garden. Before he really could identify the impulse, he took a few pieces of it from different spots along the cap and slipped them into a pocket. Turning the tablet back, he gave Tony a sheepish smile.]

Sorry. There was something interesting I needed to look at. You are not helpless so quit acting like I think you're fragile.
