Event 1 - New Friends for the Holidays

[The Cat appears on the bookmark screens, black fur looking slightly mussed and one ear cocked at an odd angle as if he's listening to something out of the bookmark range. He lets out a humph and a trill before focusing on the patrons that he's broadcasting to. If some of the patrons listen carefully, they will hear the sound of barking and the occasional 'meow'.]

Good day, everyone. While the portal was open to London, the Librarians received a request from some beings who were looking for a new home. Some of them are canines and felines that are similar to the creatures on most worlds. Others are more... unique. All wish to find companionship here and have asked if our patrons would take them in and befriend them. The Library will find ways to accommodate these creatures needs so there will be no concerns regarding the items required to care for them. If you would like to visit with our new guests, you may find them at the main reception hall.

[When the Cat finishes speaking, a grey Persian cat nudges him so that he can look at the screen as well.]

There is also a feline here that says his name is Church. He says his human is Jem Carstairs but he will settle for Isabelle or Alec Lightwood, or the 'Herondale boy'.

[The Cat looks at Church, canting his head toward the other feline.]

He does have a name you know and there are other Herondales that could be here.

[Church looks unimpressed in the way only cats seem to be able to master.]

Jace Lightwood-Herondale. I would appreciate one of those individuals collecting Church so he might settle in.

The other creatures are eager to join the Library community. Please come by and offer a new home to our guests.

Jace makes a face at the video announcement and then goes back to his training exercises. He's not interested in a cat who can't even call him by his name. Alec or Izzy can have Church. The annoying little pain. Cats are rude he decides, breathing in slowly. He is also not interested in having a pet or a companion. He is a Shadowhunter and Shadowhunters don't have time for pets.

Simon didn't count he smirks to himself. But the thought of Simon brings thoughts of Clary and his smirk vanishes.

Sebastian can't help himself. His parents wouldn't allow him to have a pet when he had so many other responsibilities already. And even if he can't help he wants to see all the animals that have come to the Library. He hurries to the main reception hall.

"What will happen to the animals who aren't chosen by anyone?" He asks the Cat, smiling at Church.

The Cat sits on the desk, watching over the various creatures that are playing or stalking through the reception area. Occasionally, he lets out a trill or a sharply enunciated meow to keep them from becoming too enthusiastic in their explorations.

Church seemed unimpressed with it all, watching the doors to the reception area for the Lightwoods. "There should be only enough animals here for the number of patrons who wish for a companion. If not, then they will remain here until new patrons arrive and choose them."

As he speaks, a munchkin cat wanders over to the desk, meowing urgently. The Cat crouches down to listen, tail lashing languidly. "Sebastian, he says that he is looking for Magnus Bane or Alec Lightwood. They are his humans and he came here to find them."

He knew better than to be distracted while training with Jace but the sound of the Cat's voice broadcasting over the bookmarks meant that something important was happening. Pulling his bookmark from his pocket, he's startled when he sees who is keeping the Cat company and his own name being announced.

Looking up he, gives his parabatai a worried look. They don't have to worry about Jace's marks now but something else is going on. He knows that eventually he'll tell Alec but for now all he can do is worry. When the image fades from the bookmark, he makes sure his expression doesn't show that concern. "Do you want to pick him up or should I?"

Sebastian looks down at the cat for a moment before crouching down and holding out his hand. He'd read in a book when he was six and had wanted a pet to let the animal smell you first before trying to touch it. It was a way of asking permission and introducing himself. He smiles like his six year self might have.

"I can take you to them. I'm Sebastian."

"The Herondale boy isn't interested." Jace manages to keep the irritation from his voice. Mostly. "But if you want company..." He offers, not looking at Alec.

Maybe he's a little interested in the more unique animals that have arrived.

The Cat continues to watch the Munchkin, amused by the chatter the smaller cat merps at them both. Sebastian probably doesn't understand most of it but it's obvious that the Chairman is excited to see him. "He says his name is Chairman Meow and that you - "

The Cat normally wouldn't consider a diplomatic way to say things but he decides that tact is best. At least no one else can understand what the Chairman says about a certain subject. Later, he'd discuss this piece of gossip with Bob... when he knew it wouldn't bring anyone involved distress. "Seem to be good friends with Mr. Lightwood so he will go with you."

[alec_lightwood]

"It's Church. You can't expect him to be polite. And he misses Jem." He knows more about that than he wants to tell Jace. If his parabatai returned, it might alter how things happened. Maybe? Alec isn't sure if them both being here at two different points in their lives means that the future can't change but he's not going to take the risk.

His lips twitch as he fights back a smile. He knows that Jace might be acting bored by the idea but Alec knows that curiosity will eventually get the better of his brother. "I would love to have company. I've missed having to keep my parabatai out of trouble."

Barry grins at the bookmark screen, Joe had never let Iris and he have a pet and he's really wanted a dog for the longest time. It's just the whole superhero thing and his CSI job a pet wasn't really a great idea. "Any puppies in that bunch with a lot of energy?"

"What would you do without me to keep your life interesting?" Jace asks, leaving Alec to follow as he sets out for the reception desk. "He could have simply called me Jace." He grumbles, still irritated.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Chairman Meow." Sebastian wonders if it was Alec or Magnus who named the cat. Or perhaps the cat chose the name. It would't surprise him with all the new things he's learned since arriving at the Library.

"I wish I could speak cat. Can you ask him if it's okay to carry him?" It would be rude to assume.

"I spent every day pining for my parabatai." Not quite but he had missed Jace. It had felt like something was missing but it wasn't the same ache he'd felt when Jace had simply been gone. "He's known a lot of Herondales. And one looked kind of like you."

Alec doesn't even think that this isn't something he would know at the time Jace is from. Following his parabatai, he rolls his eyes at the grousing. "Maybe if you hadn't chased him as the 'demon' when we played as kids, he would remember your name."

Jace stopped to stare at Alec, eying his parabatai curiously ad accusingly before responding with a roll of his eyes and continuing on to the desk.

"I needed to practice my hunting skills."

The Cat peers at the screen, opening his mouth to answer when there's the distinct sound of barking and yipping followed by a crash. The feline winced, ears flat against his skull. Really, why did they have to bring in dogs. Cats were more refined creatures. "Several. If you would like to visit then, I would appreciate having someone larger here to keep them out of mischief."

"Be careful what you wish for within the Library. You might find that you can speak feline." Of all the unusual things that could happen in the Library, that wasn't the worst that could happen to Sebastian but it might be more embarrassing than expected. "He is very chatty." The Chairman glares at him, but the Cat only flips his tail in amusement. The Munchkin merps and the Cat looks up at Sebastian. "He said thank you for asking and yes, you may pick him up. He's excited to see his humans."

Giving Sebastian a thoughtful look, he glances over at the Chairman. "He also thinks you'll be one of his humans too."

[alec_lightwood]

Noticing Jace's expression, he wonders what he'd said wrong. Jace knows he's a Herondale. That couldn't be it. "What? It's not weird that you look like one of your ancestors. I look like two of ours." Yes, theirs. They were related even if they didn't know it before.

"You chased after Church with a sword. That isn't practicing your hunting skills."

[dulcet_cellist]

"Would that mean I would meow like a cat or simply understand what they're saying to me?" Sebastian asks, smiling at Chairman Meow as he picks him up. Very gentle and careful so as not to accidentally hurt him. He's never held a cat before. Chairman Meow is very soft and cute he thinks making sure to support him and hold him close so he won't be scared.

"You can visit me in my room Chairman Meow."

He's not sure why the cat thinks that about him.

"I'm sure they missed you, too."

There is the hiss of a speedster moving at half speed and Barry is suddenly bowled over by a pile of excited puppies who want him to do his trick again. "Okay question answered," he answered as he tumbles over under a pile of fur." Barry laughs as puppies try to lick and climb over this human mountain. One puppy though isn't joining in though, a black and white collie puppy is sitting watching the others with a big smile on his face. He barks at the Cat as if to say."Is that my human?"

"I wasn't going to hurt him." Jace protested, turning to look at Alec over his shoulder. "If I look like one of my ancestors then the cat was the only one who knew I was a Herondale and forgot to mention it to anyone?"

And then he stopped and turned to face Alec, "What do you mean exactly by 'ours'?"

Looking down from his vantage point at the desk, the Cat decides that he can deal with the canine horde if it means one of them will find a companion. Hopping down when he's sure that Allen will remain moving at normal human speeds, the Cat walks over to the dogs. He looks smug when they keep their distance from him. "They will find you endlessly entertaining. Please run them down. Their energy seems boundless."

Except for that one who barked at the Cat. Tipping his head, he looked from puppy to Allen. "He asked if you are his companion."

[alec_lightwood]

"I know that." He bumped his shoulder lightly against his parabatai's, giving him a wry smile. "But I don't know if Church did. You did look very convincing when you chased after him."

The comment had been one he would have made with the Jace from his time. That Jace knew about their shared ancestors and had started to learn about his family. "We're related. Generations back. You're great grandfather and my great grandmother were siblings. I have their black hair and blue eyes."

"Yes, but you wouldn't need to. Cats understand more than most beings give them credit for." Although most of it is mostly impressions and instinct when dealing with their favorite humans. The Cat purrs in approval as he realizes Sebastian is putting thought into this. "You would understand them the way you can understand everyone else in the Library. The words are translated as needed unless there is no equivalent in your language."

The purr becomes louder as he watches how careful Sebastian is when he picks up the smaller cat. The Head Librarian was right when he said that the Cat should be more open minded about humans. Some of them treated felines with respect and kindness.

The Chairman makes a sound that was more for the Cat than Sebastian. "He would like to visit. He says you smell like home." He is not going to say that the Chairman thinks that Sebastian smells like Alec's sweaters. The one the Chairman likes to sleep on the most.

"I hope that they missed him. He was very adamant about coming here when he found out Church was going to stay with the other Lightwoods."

"We've been related all this time." Jace said simply, turning away. The thought actually made him feel a little better in an odd way. They were family. He didn't feel so disconnected thinking about that fact. "I had to look convincing. Demons don't fear half-hearted attempts to kill them."

[alec_lightwood]

"Jace, we'd be related even if you were a Wayland or Morgenstern. We are family even if blood didn't connect us. You are my brother." Giving him a reassuring smile Alec placed Jace's hand over the rune on his arm. "We're more than brothers, remember? That will never change. Not even death can separate parabatai."

Letting out a snort that would have had Maryse giving him a warning look, he tried - and failed - to look stern. "And you wonder why Church always claws you when you try to rub his stomach."

Isabelle makes an irritated face at the cat in the bookmark. Her own face can't hold back a smirk at seeing Church. "I see how it is.... giving my cat away and I haven't even been here for five miniutes.

"You doing okay Church?"
