(Out of habit, Maedhros awakens with his sword drawn and his eyes wide open - wary. The words echo in his ears and he scowls. Save who? No one can be saved by him and he knows better than to try.

It all turns to ash.

His blade glints, held steadily in his left hand.)

Whoever may be watching; whoever may hear my voice, I cannot save you. I cannot even save myself.

(His tone is low and rough.)

Leave me be. Let me travel to the Halls of Mandos.

[The Cat sits on a shelf, mostly hidden by shadows, watching their latest patron. His eyes glow brightly when he shifts, a way of allowing Maedhros know that he isn't alone. The Cat stretches languidly, hanging his head over the edge of the shelf and trilling thoughtfully.]

If you were asked to come here, then you have skills necessary to save the Library.

(The voice isn't hard to find, but he questions his senses. Cats cannot speak in the tongue of Elves or Men. He lowers his sword and steps forward, his brow furrowing.)

Skills perhaps, but a broken mind too.

[The Cat knows that he looks more like a house cat than like a Librarian but it is more important to put someone at ease than to maintain his dignity.]

If you think that your mind is broken because you hear me speaking, you are incorrect. I am the Non-Fiction Librarian, not a true cat.

(He presses his lips together tensely, shaking his head.)

You are the least of the strange happenings in my life. (His features soften. What a fuzzy cat...er...non-cat.) Why did you choose this form?

I am the least strange in many being's life.

[The Cat purred smugly at that even if he did like to shock the patrons by speaking when they expected nothing more than a house cat.]

I cannot say exactly. I am very, very old and do not remember when I chose this form. Now I choose it because...

[The Cat stretched, showing off sleek long limbs.]

It is a marvel of engineering. Few forms are as well balanced and able to do the sorts of things that a feline can.

You make a very good point. I am concerned for your safety, however. A cat could be hurt far more easily than a canine.

(It could be argued they are sleeker/faster etc., but Maedhros is used to looking after those much smaller than himself.)

I look like a cat but I am more than what my form suggests. I am one of the caretakers of this place. That makes me more resistant than most beings.

[There were few things that could truly harm him but that was knowledge that not all should have access to.]

Most creatures that enter the Library know that I am not one to trifle with. Our patrons are the ones who need to be protected, not me.

[catching video of someone appearing to show up with a sword in hand caught the assassins attention.]

Perhaps you are here to be saved as well as return the favor.

You would not be the first.

I do not think my salvation possible. (All the same...) I do not mind helping if I am able.

You have no reason to, but believe me when I say, I thought the same thing. If all you can do is help, it is a good start.

Perhaps they have a liking for lost causes? (It's fitting in his case.) What should I do first?

I think... they look for people willing to help. I don't think they would ask if they thought you wouldn't. [He thought he was a lost cause when he first got here too...] I'm... not the best at deciding how to start. I'm... still working on that myself. Find the Librarians. They are your best start.

I found a cat. (A talking cat who says they are a librarian.) I would think I've gone mad except I have never envisioned a talking cat.

That is a good start.

If it helps, the cat is real. I was unsure about that as well.
