(His gaze is hard, unyielding; his are the eyes of someone who has seen their end and been haunted by its repercussions. There are scars on his face - he has no way of hiding them - and the tip of one of his pointed ears is missing entirely. But his voice is deep and strong; it resonates in the manner of a King.)

I do not know what good I can offer or why so much power was expended to bring me to this place...

(He takes a breath, pausing for a beat, his stern features relaxing minutely.)

But I thank you. I would not have seen my family otherwise.

(Maedhros is clearly not comfortable being overly demonstrative, so he moves on swiftly, looking thoughtful.)

I have loved books since I was an Elfling; I did not realize they had such power to pull us into their tales. We have been given a curious flock.

I'm glad. That you've gotten to see them again, I mean.

[Nita wishes she could say the same.]

I'll second the part about us being a 'curious flock' though. And-

[She was about to add, it's more like we've been pulled out of ours, but Nita kind of doesn't want to wreck his perception of the world. More than it's been wrecked already, anyway.]

-And this place is pretty good at finding the people who'd most appreciate it.

(It is a gift he did not expect and he knows damn well he doesn't deserve.)

(He waits for her to finish before nodding slowly.)

I take it you appreciate it too? Was your life finished in your world?

(Are there others like him, he wonders.)

[Nita shakes her head.]

No, actually - but considering I was between missions, rather than on one, for all I know I do have Death coming for me.

[~~And considering the Lone Power has a bit of a grudge against her, that may be more true than she'll admit.~~

She gives him a wry expression.]

Doubt that's the case for everyone here, though.

At least you do not have memories of it if that is so. (He is glad for her, but he still feels...alone.)

For their sakes, I hope that is the case for them. No one deserves this burden. (Besides him.)

[Nita's expression is thoughtful at that. Would she end up with a vision of her death, if it were imminent? She's not sure she wants that... or to know the answer to that question.]

You don't have to talk about it, if you'd rather not. That, and at least you can do some good here too.

[She gives him a small smile.]

So, ah, what's your name? I'm Nita, Nita Callahan.

(He doesn't have many - if any - pointers for her on how to handle it. It's best if she avoids it entirely.)

I...cannot speak of it. (Not well and not with anyone other than his brother thus far.)

If there is any good left in me, I will share it.

(He inclines his head.)

I am Maedhros.

[Nita nods. She can't blame him for thinking like that.]

That's all anyone can ask of you, I think.

[Her eyes widen; it takes her a moment to place the name, but when she does... Nita nods again, in respect.]

It is good to meet you, Maedhros.

(He is certain there is no good in him, but for his brother's sake - for the sake of his "grandsons" - he will try.)

There is only so much I can give.

(Asked or not. He blinks slowly.)

Is my name familiar to you?

[Nita grins wryly.]

Same goes for everyone, I promise.

[Aaand that grin falls. Awkwardness sets in, even though Nita really should know better at this point than to let it leak through.]

Ah, yeah. I haven't been to your world or anything, though.

I hope others can give more than I. (Otherwise they will all be poor shepherds indeed!

How did you learn of it then?

(Oh, don't be so down on yourself, Maedhros! Nita quirks an eyebrow at his tone, but ultimately decides to let it drop for now. Moving on to his own question:)

... Through books, as ironic as that sounds.

(That too is a Fëanorian trait and one that is well-earned.)

I did not know there were books written about me.

You - we - might find them here in the Library, if we search hard enough.

[Since protecting all their worlds from the Dark is what they're here for.]

I know how my story goes and it has ended. I would be more interested in how my brother fares. (How the twins fare and if the Enemies are defeated for good.)

... You might find those stories in the same place.

[Though Nita's memories of which stories were in The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion were somewhat mixed.]

Do you recall the titles of the tomes? (Surely there is more than one. Their lives are long.)

[Nita really is hesitant about this, but he is asking, so... she nods.]

Lord of the Rings. There's three books in that series.

And there's a prequel, as well: The Silmarillion.

I...do not understand the first title. (Rings?) The Silmarillion...ah. That makes sense.

It wasn't really named after any of the people it's about.

[Except maybe Sauron... or Frodo; she's not quite sure who the real master of the One Ring was in the end.]

There was a cursed ring, though.

I thought as much. I just do not know of any rings. I assume they are not normal creations.

(They sound troublesome.)

It was a cursed ring. I think there were- what, nine others?

[That number might ring a bell for some people, so to speak. Still, Nita wishes she actually had those books, if only so she'd know for sure.]

It had some sort of "desire me" charm on it - made people fight over it. And that's one of it's lighter consequences.

[She's still hesitant to mention Sauron, for obvious reasons.]
