Hello!

[A small boy wearing a pair of oversized glasses appears on the screen. He leans in close to the bookmark and taps at it curiously for a moment before settling back and smiling.]

I haven't really used this before, so I thought it might be interesting to give it a try. Are there many people here? I don't think I've met very many people yet.

[The boy pauses for a moment, thinking.]

I'm Conan Edogawa, by the way. And I was curious. Are there any detectives or police officers here?

I'm Loki Laufeyson, well met Conan! As for your question... [He looks thoughtful a moment before giving a small shrug.] I can't say I've seen any myself. Why, are you in need of assistance?

[That name... Conan recognized it from his brief readings into European mythology. (The topic sometimes came in useful while deciphering riddles). It was an odd name to bear, but unlikely to have any more meaning than that. Myth wasn't real after all, regardless of what Amaterasu had tried to tell him.]

No, not really. I was mostly curious. [He grins cheerfully.] I know a lot of detectives and police officers at home. It would be strange if there weren't any here, right?

[It doesn't bother Loki overmuch if Conan believes him or not just yet. He'd noticed that humans tended to be skeptical at the best of times after all.]

For Midgard certainly. But this isn't that realm. I'm not sure where it is, annoyingly enough. But it might be like Asgard, with a guard and watch. Or it might not have anything at all, or something entirely different. Places like this tend to have sentinels of some sort typically... but as damaged as we're told it is, perhaps they cannot call them.

There's a fair group of us, but nowhere near enough to populate, say, a small town.

I'm Nita Callahan, and I can't say I've seen any official detectives or anything.

[No betting on whether there are unofficial ones, though.]

Nice to meet you Nita. Do new people arrive here often?

[Which meant that unless someone was staying under the radar, that made him the only detective here. That just made things more complicated. ]

So you haven't seen any law enforcement here at all?

I haven't, no. No police, no guards, no spirits or other guardians. Whatever happens here, it seems we'll be handling it on our own.

Not sure. Intermittently, I guess? There's no set number or frequency.

Do you know anyone here?

[She does remember seeing Ran on the Network, but she'll let him decide whether or not to confirm that.]

Just one person. But I was wondering if anyone else could be expected to show up.

[Well, that complicated things. As a detective he could solve any cases that appeared here, but with no law enforcement to report the criminals too, it was unlikely that any justice system was in place.]

Do you know what kinds of things will be happening here? All I've heard is about some kind of corruption in the books.

Well, we're here to fix problems in the universes the books seem to represent, before they destabilize and destroy any more of them. I'm not sure how true it all is, we could be simply making things worse without realizing it, but that's the instruction we've received, and nothing's gone wrong so far. But apparently if this place collapses then so do all the worlds connected to it.

I haven't been here long enough to notice a pattern to what we're tasked with yet, but the last thing I helped with was in some variant of Midgard's past, retrieving the bow and arrows belonging to Eros from a thief. [And he'd gotten hit with one so excuse the small annoyed frown on his face as he considers that mess.]

If they want assistance on something this important, you would think more detailed instructions would be given.

[He had so many opinions on this. ]

[Nita shrugs.]

Can't say for sure; most of the people here aren't from the same world.

[Not counting the Doctor, obviously.]

Do you know why that is?

[Nita shakes her head.]

I mean, I could talk multiverse theory and selection algorithms or even just pure chance 'til the cows come home, but I doubt there's a real rhyme and reason to it. The Head Librarian or the Cat might know, but that's as far as I can be sure of.

Is this cat anything like that Ammy?

Hmm... no, I don't think he's from her world. But he does talk.

[And he has a bit of pride, to say the least.]

As for the same world part I know of two others from my world here. [That being a good thing]

But hi, I'm Thea and I'm in change of marksmanship and martial arts.

Oh? That sounds interesting, What does it mean here to be in charge of martial arts and marksmanship?

Its just the section I'm in charge of, I'm also an archer.

Oh? What kind of archery?

[He tilts his head for a moment in thought.]

You might want to talk to Ran-neechan. She just got here, but she'd really good at karate.

[Great. Just what he needed to deal with. More talking animals.]

Maybe I'll try talking to him then.

Who else have you met here, so far?

Amaterasu, Bob, Sam and Trance. Not many.

[Nita nods.]

Yeah. I've met Thea, Owen, Trunks, Sunset Shimmer, Rose, and a version of the Doctor.

[Oops! Slip of the tongue to call him a 'version' - but then, he didn't say what name he was going by here.]

And I've met Ammy as well. Haven't seen 'Bob' before, though.

[At least as far as Nita recalls.]
