[A small boy wearing a pair of oversized glasses appears on the screen. He leans in close to the bookmark and taps at it curiously for a moment before settling back and smiling.]

I haven't really used this before, so I thought it might be interesting to give it a try. Are there many people here? I don't think I've met very many people yet.

[The boy pauses for a moment, thinking.]

I'm Conan Edogawa, by the way. And I was curious. Are there any detectives or police officers here?

[That name... Conan recognized it from his brief readings into European mythology. (The topic sometimes came in useful while deciphering riddles). It was an odd name to bear, but unlikely to have any more meaning than that. Myth wasn't real after all, regardless of what Amaterasu had tried to tell him.]

No, not really. I was mostly curious. [He grins cheerfully.] I know a lot of detectives and police officers at home. It would be strange if there weren't any here, right?

[It doesn't bother Loki overmuch if Conan believes him or not just yet. He'd noticed that humans tended to be skeptical at the best of times after all.]

For Midgard certainly. But this isn't that realm. I'm not sure where it is, annoyingly enough. But it might be like Asgard, with a guard and watch. Or it might not have anything at all, or something entirely different. Places like this tend to have sentinels of some sort typically... but as damaged as we're told it is, perhaps they cannot call them.

Seems to be a decent number, so far as I can tell. But folk are always moving around, so it makes it hard to get a decent count. Elladan, at your service! Elladan Elrondion, if you want to be formal, but only my superiors ever call me that, and only when I'm in trouble. [ He says cheerfully ]

And I fear I don't know what a detective or a police officer is, so I cannot help on that score.

You don't know what they are? What about law enforcement? Courts? The justice system?

Ah, now you use words I know. Law enforcement varies, largely, depending. The Hobbits have Sherrifs, but I understand the Family Heads are responsible for punishment, and the Sherrifs are mostly there to beat the Bounds and keep the peace. Imladris is pretty small - Father is the Lord of the Valley, and between him and his Council manage most of the day-to-day running of things, including issues of punishment. Most of the other Elven settlements are similar - we are too small for anything else, these days. Gondor has the King's Men - well, they used to be run by the Steward, but not anymore - as well as local judges. Arnor had no king until recently, so they relied mostly on local justices, as well as the Rangers. Don't ask me how the dwarves do it, they don't talk to outsiders.

Because when you're lost you should always try to find a police officer first.

[That was the answer expected of a kid. But Conan continues on to the real answer.]

But also because I spent a lot of time with detectives and police officers at home. I was curious if anyone from any of the same departments would be here.

Of course.

[Flat look because, well, it's Four. He's usually being chased by those same officers. The second answer though he accepts.]

Granted the complexity of a nexus, there is a low probability that those officers will be here. All the better from some perspectives.

It's a big place, and things have been busy. There are a few of us here, but don't assume just because someone isn't person-shaped, they're not a person.

[Such a little skeptic. That's okay, Trunks has already had experience with at least one person being shocked and forced to re-examine what they thought they knew, on coming here.]

Maybe a month or two? Roughly? Long enough to learn to be careful, and then be even more careful, with assumptions about the books.
